Guanaco Shearing Day 2026 was a great success!
This team really has the whole shearing system down, which is no small feat because our animals are wild and require extra care. Here’s how shearing guanacos happens:
John and Greg administer sedation.
I hood the guanaco so that they remain calm. (Specially fitted and sewn hoods with Velcro closures are the very best we’ve found.)
Clint Goodwin (@Clintsshearing) and Correy McAtee receive the guanaco and lay them down oh so gently.
This year, Thomas Proulx (@mysticalmomentshomestead) helped and even took the guanaco fiber with him to process at his wonderful mill!
Diane bags the fiber after I noodle it into nice and neat rolls as it comes off the guanaco.
And I lead the guanacos back to the pasture. Sometimes they are a bit loopy so it is cute and funny to watch them get their sea legs.
I went through the fiber this morning and was delighted to find it to be as luxurious as always.
Matteo was our only baby (chulenga) this year and his fleece is absolutely stunning.
I held it back from the mill for those of you who might be interested in hand processing some of it.

This one is special. The water is the view of Drake’s Estero from Mount Vision in Inverness, CA. The moon and watering can are from a Soul Collage Card that I made several years ago. The two images combined feel important, like an internal world made real.
